I didn't do anything to get my first client from the partner program.  FunnelDash handled everything from generating the lead, facilitating the initial discovery call, the follow up call, the on-boarding call, and even the payment collection.  It couldn't have been better!  Not to mention the client was SUPER impressed..

This post was originally published on September 5th, 2017. It’s a great topic, and one we get asked about a lot. So we figured we’d spruce it up a little for you and republish it. That way, when you’re looking for your first client, or your next client, have a better idea of where to look.

“What niche should I target?”

“What’s the best niche for Facebook ads?”

These are two very common questions we get from FunnelDash customers, especially from digital marketing agencies that are just starting out.

The honest answer?

Go with what you know. You will do a much better job for your clients when you understand their audience.

More importantly, you will have a better relationship with your clients if you understand their businesses and you know the pain-points of their customers.

Here at FunnelDash, our digital marketing agency side works with clients who are info-marketers (usually selling courses) or with other software companies.

Why?

That’s what we know best. Our founder, Zach Johnson, has worked at 2 influential start-up tech companies, Leadpages and Ontraport. He’s also worked with several info-marketers on other projects and understands that market and its pain points.

For those of you who aren’t sure what your best niche would be, here are some ideas to help you find it.

Think About Your Past Work History

What industries have you worked in already?

Are you a former real estate agent? Then you already know that real estate agents need help getting leads.

Have you worked in retail? Then you understand what small retail businesses are up against when it comes to getting customers in the door.

Do you have special training of some kind? Are you certified in a specific program or area?

Believe it or not, there are thousands of B2B companies who also run Facebook ads. Their audience is highly targeted, but it’s still there. And they could use someone who really understands what they do, and who they’re targeting.

Many companies spend 80% of their ad spend on Facebook ads. Your digital marketing agency can make good money, if you use your own skills and expertise to find the right clients.

Think About Your Personal Interests and Hobbies

What do you do with your life when you’re not working?

What are your hobbies? Knitting shops, woodworking stores and other businesses catering to hobbyists run Facebook ads too. (And yes, many of them can afford a $2,000 a month retainer to hire someone to do it for them.)

Do you coach a local sports team? Are you involved with a civic organization? These organizations have lots of companies that sell to or work with them. These companies also run Facebook ads.

Look at the sponsors of your Little League team or the company that sells you the uniforms.

Talk to the major donors to your civic organization, or the businesses that do your printing or cater your meetings and events.

Do you go to a local yoga studio or gym? The exercise niche is a great one to target, and many of them are independently owned or are part of a franchise, which usually means they do their own advertising. If they’re part of a franchise, you may be able to pick up several clients at once.

“I Have No Idea Which Niche to Choose and I Want Clients Who Pay Well”

There are some of you who won’t be able to use the ideas above.

I asked other Facebook Ads pros what they thought the best niches were. In general, they all agreed that the “go with what you know” advice was best. That’s what most of them do themselves.

I did get some recommendations for you, including:

  • Real estate agents
  • Car dealerships
  • Automotive repair shops
  • Laser hair removal
  • Day spas
  • Accountants
  • Lawyers
  • Financial planners
  • Cosmetic surgeons
  • Dentists
  • Chiropractors

These are all businesses that sell products and services with a high dollar value.

This is an important thing to consider as you move forward with your digital marketing agency. You may want to start with the local coffee shop to get some experience, but at some point you’ll need to add clients with a higher ad spend to your list.

Most importantly, always remember that you are running your own business and you’re in this to help your clients promote theirs. Running Facebook ads is not a “get rich quick” scheme.

Managing a successful Facebook ad campaign takes skill, knowledge and an understanding of the company you’re representing, as well as the audience they’re targeting. The easiest way to get a client is to go into the relationship with these assets. When you know your client’s industry, you’ll always have an advantage.
